I spoke at the Main-Washington Exchange recently. In case you don’t know about them, you should A very cool collection of emerging businesses in one of Buffalo’s hip old buildings, run by a hip old guy Mark Schroeder (he’s not really old, he is my age-ish!) At any rate, I spoke about press releases: how to write them and how to disseminate them.

I have probably written about 750 releases over the course of my life but was still nervous about what I was going to say. I did a little research and discovered that the very first press release dates back to a train wreck in 1906. Disseminating news via a press release is one of the best ways to get your business noticed…and it’s free! Well, free in the sense that you are not paying for advertising. Beyond that, there is a credibility factor that you get with a news story that you do not get with paid advertising.

Simply put, the value of a well-placed newspaper, radio, TV or blog story far outweighs paid advertising.
